Busy Busy

It's been a full week since the last posting... Perhaps this post should also be titled "Slacking"? Despite the heavy workload somehow I found the time to run - Maybe this is a sign that I should consider a 12 step program for this addiction? I have a feeling this week is just the beginning of many busy weeks! Our late summer and fall work schedule is full of projects out of town - always a joy to get your miles in while traveling!

So what have I done in the last week? Here's the short version:

Saturday - I pounded out 13.1 miles (for each of the original colonies)

Sunday I followed up with 6 miles in the heat.

Tuesday 6 miles turned into a 4.6 mile run on the fly

Wednesday 6.2 miles with some hill repeats

Friday 7.18 miles over lunch!

Here's the in depth highlights and low lights:

My 13 miles went well - I started off pretty easy around a 9:40 pace. Around 4 miles I felt like I was getting faster and working harder, I checked my pace and I was actually running a 9:59 pace!! I was a bit upset and decided to pick things up.. I ran the last mile in 8:58! Truthfully once I sped up I felt more comfortable and like I wasn't working as hard... Funny how that stuff works!

Since I'm a slave to the almighty mileage total I needed to get some miles in on Sunday. I was still feeling the 13 miles right away in the morning so I put the run off. I opted for running at likely the hottest time of day- I was up against the clock as I knew dinner was waiting for me when I finished. This means I averaged a 8:43 pace for those 6 miles. Who says I'm not motivated by food? I finished the week with 29.5 miles- Less than planned but I skipped a day!

I went out for 6 miles on Tuesday but after about a block I adjusted that distance to 5 miles It keep getting less until I turned around and went home. It just wasn't a running morning.

Hills on Wednesday- nothing to say but I hate hills even if they are little... There is a reason that competitive running tracks are perfectly flat - it's because sane runners don't do hills.

Friday I slept in and missed my morning run - I really need to work on this sleep thing. Currently I'm blaming my lack of sleep on my kids for talking me into doing a jigsaw puzzle with them... they lose interest quickly while I'm become more addicted to it. Again, because I'm a slave to my weekly mileage total I took a run over lunch- I was going for 7 miles... if you do the math, it is physically impossible for me to run 7 miles, shower and eat something in a 1 hour lunch break. Luckily it's summer and half of my co-workers took off early- I felt entitled to a little extra lunch break- I mean I'm actually saving the company money... Running is a healthy activity and the healthier we are as a company the more our insurance premiums will go down! Is that justification or what? Although it was getting warm out I still managed to run it at an 8:51 pace... probably the food motivation again - the quicker I run the more time I have to eat!

So this weekend I'm gunning for a 15 mile long run and then another busy busy week!
